Spotlight on Fish and Chips

There's nothing quite like good fish and chips. The crunch of a good batter, giving way to tender white fish which falls apart at the touch of a fork. It's quite the institution in Britain, and I must say I really miss it.
This fish and chip shop is in Usk, Wales. I must stop off next time I'm visiting!
On a visit to west Wales we stopped at Brown's cafe in Pembroke. It was very cosy and inviting, and the day we stopped in for lunch it was raining and all the windows were steamed up. It was the perfect lunch, and just as we were leaving I read a little article on the counter about Connie Brown and her famous motorcycle ride.
Connie Brown was still working at Brown's Cafe when she died at 102, and she even received an MBE from the Queen. She must have been quite a lady!
Then this week I found this interesting article about how seagulls are stealing fish and chips, and that's it's becoming quite a problem. Whatever next!

French delights

Quiche for breakfast. But this is no ordinary quiche! A wonderful combination of tomatoes and chevre, and of course pastry that melts in your  mouth. I wonder if I could replicate this recipe at home?

Some spicy chorizo and chilled rose at sunset. A pink and perfect combination!

Richardson's Candy Kitchen, Deerfield, MA

Richardson's Candy Kitchen is just up the road on Route 5 on the way to Old Deerfield. I wanted to buy something special and something local to take back to my family and friends in the U.K., and I'd seen a segment on "The Best Food I Ever Ate" on the Food Network, which highlighted their Dark Chocolate Pecan Dixies!
The shop is full of candies, fudge, nuts and all sorts of concoctions you could imagine. The air is sweet and heavy with sugar, and you're definitely spoiled for choice. It's a little overwhelming so I was glad I knew what I was going to buy!

We sampled the Dixies last night with a cup of tea, and I must say they were fabulous. The combination of the pecans and caramel with the dark chocolate is heavenly.
