Elmer's Store, Ashfield, Massachusetts

On Sunday I went out for breakfast to Elmer's Store, a buzzy restaurant and country store in Ashfield, Massachusetts. The atmosphere was warm and very informal, and we shared our table with two families with very young children, so there was lots of chitter chatter and crayons flying about the place!
I had a variety plate, with a nice light pancake topped with a mixed berry compote, sausage and a poached egg.
It was a beautiful, bright spring morning, and on my ride through Conway on Route 116, I saw a group of wild turkeys. What a lovely way to start the day!

Whately Diner (Fillin' Station), Whately, Massachusetts

The Whately Diner in the rain would make a perfect movie set for David Lynch. It's hard to believe it's real. I love coming here, especially on moody nights when the place just drips with atmosphere. The best of America.
